Who We Are

Our Mission

Hastings Family Therapy was founded with one purpose in mind: to build confidence in children. We are proud to offer Speech & Swim. Whether to make new friends or play more confidently in the pool on vacation, it all starts with your child communicating effectively. Using a fun environment and evidence based instruction, our highly skilled caring professionals at Speech & Swim will help your child build confidence both in and out of the water.

 Group & Private sessions available to help individuals of all ages meet their goals in communication.

 Beckwith Hastings is certified with the Board of Audiology and Speech Pathology of Virginia and American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Beck is also a registered Swim Whisperer with SwimAngelfish. This methodology encompasses areas of focus and strategies for overcoming roadblocks for swimmers with Autism, Anxiety, Motor issues, Physical, Sensory, Delays, Discomfort and Trauma. She provides diagnostic and therapeutic services in the areas of speech, language and hearing disorders for children and adults. She works as a clinician in the rehabilitation, early intervention, and education settings. Beckwith holds a B.A in Communication Studies with a minor in Childhood Studies as well as a B.S and M.S in Communication Sciences & Disorders.  She has over 20 years combined experience working with children in the areas of speech language therapy and swimming.

Our Therapy Services

Communication Camps

Various Groups Available to Meet the Swimmer's Goal.


Speech Sound Groups: Designed to help children with tough sounds like /s/, /z/, /r/, /l/, etc while learning to swim and having fun in the water. Sessions based on area of need and age of swimmers.

$225 for a group of 4 sessions



Social Swim: Designed to encourage language development and social interactions through swimming instruction. Swimmers will work on social skills awareness, problem solving, conversational turn-taking and following/giving directions.

$300 for a group of 4 sessions


Children learn from one another, make friends, and challenge one another in a welcoming and fun atmosphere. 

There will be no more than 5 swimmers with one instructor. Camps are held four consecutive days for 30 minutes each.



Individual Sessions

 All ages and abilities are welcome. Private sessions are optimal for swimmers who may need more individualized attention in communication and swimming.  Speech & Swim SLPs specialize in functional communication and emerging language users. We accommodate and welcome AAC users and recommend an additional laminated low-tech option for pool use. Available on a weekly schedule, but space is limited. 

$300 for a group of 4 sessions


"Regular" Swimming Lessons

Mrs. Sara has a background in physical therapy with a passion for teaching swimming and helping kids. These sessions meet the needs of  swimmers at a pace that gently extends their comfort zone. All levels are welcome. We've helped a range of swimmers from those afraid of the water to others improving stroke technique and endurance for swim team.

$300 for a group of 4 sessions


Our goal is to increase safety within the water, help individuals reach their goals, and have a good time at the pool

According to the World Health Organization, children ages 1-14 die more frequently from drowning than any other cause. We live in an area surrounded by water. Sharing my passion for swim instruction is not only joyful, it is necessary.
